Activating a Terminal
SSO Into a Merchant Account
- Log in to the Admin App.
- Click on Configuration in the left-hand toolbar then click Merchants.
- Type your search criteria in the Search field and select the client.
- Select the merchant you desire and then click SSO Into MerchantTrack
- In the left-hand margin of the new window click Terminals > Activate Terminal
- On the next screen you will be given a few fields to complete. The next steps describe the actions needed to address several terminal types.
Ingenico
Merchant – The targeted merchant account to activate the terminal for
Terminal Manufacturer – Ingenico
Terminal Type – There are 2 types of terminal type.
- Standard – This would be for our typical cloud-based units such as iSMP4, Lane devices, Move 5000, Link 2500
-
Unattended – this would be for our Datacap terminals – typically the Business unit will activate these devices however if requested we can activate these. Instead of an activation code the Business unit will need to provide the Device ID found on the datacap device.
- Example device ID: PT7467511791
Activation code – Activation codes displayed by the terminal (for Unattended this option is replaced by “Terminal Device ID”)
Description – Title of the terminal (front desk, reception etc.)
Verifone
Terminal Manufacturer - Verifone
- Same activation process as and values as Ingenico
PAX
For the PAX devices you will need to select the PAX Model using the provided dropdown.
You will then enter the serial number of the specified device instead of an activation code.
Once all the above fields have been filled out you will select the “Activate” option to complete this process.
Once successfully activated the terminal will now appear in the “Terminals” list.
Potential issues during activation
System Error
A System error has Error has Occurred while attempting to register the terminal:
We have seen this issue when there is a communication issue when attempting to activate the device.
- Run a few network speed tests ideally throughout the day to determine if the issue is intermittent network connection related.
- We have also seen attempting activation later in the day or next day the terminal is able to activate.
- Issue could be configuration related – if steps 1 and 2 fail then the terminal may need to be replaced.
Terminal ID not Found
Terminal ID not found for merchant Specified:
This Error indicates that the POS Software (cobrand) is calling on a terminal ID that does not exist in Merchant track for the specified account.
We will need to work with the cobrand to ensure the following:
- Was the terminal activated under the correct account?
- The terminal ID found within merchant track under the terminals tab will need to be provided to the Cobrand.
Once we confirm the terminal is activated under the correct account and that the cobrand is using the correct terminal ID found within merchant track the issue should be resolved.
Invalid Activation Code
This error is returned when the activation code provided by the terminal was entered incorrectly or has expired.
The activation codes will last roughly 10-12 minutes before expiring where a new one will be provided by the terminal.
- Recommended to reboot the terminal to generate a fresh activation code to enter at the time of activation.
- This error can also populate if attempting to register a test configured device in the production environment (Test terminal activation codes will start with a C for TriPOS configured devices)
